What changes an estimate in California

Seismic bracing of pipe, duct and conduit
Where the drawings or specifications require seismic bracing of suspended systems, we count braces, hangers and anchors from the bracing details or the specified system, and list it as an assumption when the bracing design is delegated to the installer.

How the estimate is prepared
- 1. Document review. Drawings, specifications and addenda are checked for missing sheets, scale and revision before work starts.
- 2. Scope definition. Trades, inclusions, exclusions and the deliverable (quantities only, or priced) are agreed in the written quote.
- 3. Digital takeoff. Quantities are measured on screen in PlanSwift and Bluebeam Revu, each item on its own colored markup layer.
- 4. Pricing (priced estimates). Labor, material and equipment use RSMeans-based cost data for the project ZIP code, or your own rates and supplier quotes.
- 5. Review and delivery. The estimate is checked for missed scope and double counting, then delivered as PDF markups and an Excel workbook by CSI division.

Which Title 24 edition do you price to?
The edition cited on the drawings. The 2025 Title 24 took effect January 1, 2026; projects permitted under the 2022 edition are priced to that edition. If the set is unclear we ask before we start.
Can you estimate DSA school projects?
Yes. We quantify the approved drawings, carry the prevailing wage basis for public work, and list agency oversight, inspection and testing items in general conditions as assumptions for you to confirm.
Do my subcontractors need DIR registration to be on a public works bid?
Yes. Under Labor Code §1725.5, a contractor or subcontractor must be registered to bid on, be listed in a bid proposal for, or perform public work. We note it in the bid checklist; registration itself is the contractor’s responsibility.
